Please see the attached Scholarship Application for the Trinity United Methodist Church 2017 Scholarships. The application form outlines the criteria for the scholarships open to all graduating seniors and current college students in the southern Maryland geographical area. Applicants should be geographically located within the Southern Maryland region. Applications are to be returned to the Trinity UMC office [email protected] or 90 Church St., P.O. Box 2142, Prince Frederick MD 20678 on or before COB (3 pm) March 1, 2017 in order to be considered. Scholarships will be presented during services on Sunday June 11, 2017.
The Dwight P. Jacobus Scholarships were established by the Association of School Business Officials of Maryland and the District of Columbia to assist those citizens of the State and/or District who require financial assistance to secure a college education. Scholarships are awarded to deserving undergraduate students pursuing a career in Business or Education at an accredited institution of higher education within Maryland or the District of Columbia. Dwight P. Jacobus was the first Executive Director of ASBO. Number of Scholarships Ten (10) scholarships may be awarded each year. At least one scholarship will be awarded to an individual enrolled in an approved program leading to teacher certification. Criteria for Award Awards are made by the Association of School Business Officials of Maryland and the District of Columbiabased upon:

A student who wishes to be considered must file an application and supporting documents with the Chair of the Scholarship Committee for ASBO of Maryland and the District of Columbia, no later than March 1. Applications must be postmarked by March 23, 2017. The Scholarships are awarded based on merit and are available to the children (up to age 22) and spouses of active duty, retired, or deceased U. S. Army officers and enlisted personnel who maintain a dependent military ID card. Applicants for the scholarships in the High School Senior and College Student categories must have a 3.0 grade point average to be eligible. There is also a residency requirement for these scholarships. With certain exceptions, both the applicant and the sponsor must reside in one of the following cities or counties in the Greater Washington Area: a. District of Columbia b. In Maryland, the counties of Calvert, Charles, Frederick, Montgomery or Prince George c. In Virginia, the Counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Fauquier, Loudoun, Stafford or Prince William or the Cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas or Manassas Park Each year the Fort Myer Thrift Shop (a 501(c)(3) tax exempt non-profit organization) raises money through donations and consignments. Dedicated volunteers and staff generously give of their time working numerous hours every year to raise funds for scholarships for deserving students.
