“Speaking Up About Mental Health” Teen Essay Contest Promotion The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD), and Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) are co-sponsoring the “Speaking Up About Mental Health” national essay challenge. The contest aims to start conversations about mental health and encourage young people to seek help for mental health issues. U.S. high school students ages 16-18 are invited to submit a short essay. Topics may include stigma and barriers, resilience and coping strategies, school policies or practices, the impact of social media and technology, and more.
Submissions will be accepted through January 16, 2024, and winners will be announced on May 31, 2024. Multiple winners will be chosen to receive cash prizes! Juniors (students in the Class of 2025) U.S. Service Academies Summer Programs Participation in a summer program is considered a student’s first step in navigating their future to becoming one of our nation’s next generation of leaders. Summer programs introduce one to life at an Academy, where they will experience first-class academic, athletic, and professional training at one of the most prestigious academic institutions in the country. Summer program applications are now being accepted for the U.S. Military Academy (Summer Leaders Experience, West Point, NY), U.S. Naval Academy (Summer Seminar, Annapolis, MD), and U.S. Coast Guard Academy (AIM Summer Program, New London, CT). The Lexicon Ambassadors Program is an online experiential learning initiative designed to equip high school students with the critical skills needed to excel as leaders both in and out of the classroom. Each year the U.S. Junior Chamber International (JCI) Senate Foundation grants $1,500 scholarships to graduating high school seniors who plan to continue their education at accredited post-secondary colleges, universities, and $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors of Vocational schools.
Colonial Agricultural Educational foundation offers scholarships to the community that Colonial Farm Credit services in Eastern Virginia and Maryland. The program offers 86 different endowments ranging from $2000 to $6500. The criteria vary by scholarship, but students only have to fill out one application that filters their information into the scholarships that they would qualify for.
