The BigSun Organization is proud to be able to continue to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits. We are offering an annual scholarship to a deserving student. All student athletes are eligible for this award, regardless of which sport they are participating in. Their participation may be in any capacity, whether as a player, coach or official. Contest Overview What: Students are challenged to creatively answer the question, "How do you plan to pay for college?" The Student Education and Leadership Fund (SELF) is now accepting applications for the 2016–2017 award cycle. We will be awarding at least one SELF Scholarship worth a minimum of $6,000. The Student Education and Leadership Fund (SELF) scholarship does not have minimum gpa or test score requirements for eligibility. Instead, we ask that each applicant identify a challenge they have overcome in their educational careers and articulate a plan for using their advanced education to have a lasting impact on their community. Scholarships can be used for traditional 2 and 4 year colleges, trade schools, and certificate programs anywhere in the country. The application deadline is December 31st, but applications will be reviewed as they are received. Each year, the American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) sponsors an Americanism Essay Contest for students in grades 3-12 including students with special needs. Grade levels are divided into three classes. One award in each of the three classes will be presented in each division. Winners will receive $50, and a $50 honorarium in the student’s name will be made to the Children of Warriors National Presidents’ Scholarship fund. Each year Prince Frederick Lodge awards a scholarship to a qualifying graduating Senior from each Calvert County High School. The closing date is March 1, 2017. A completed application should be submitted to your guidance counselor.

Students with financial need higher than this amount will have any additional need met by the scholarship. Every year Johnson Scholarships are awarded to approximately ten percent of the incoming class. In addition, Johnson Scholars receive funding in the amount of $7,000 to support summer experiences during their time at Washington and Lee. Internships, volunteer experiences or research projects are just a few of the ways Johnson Scholars may use these funds to explore the world and their own potential for leadership. Applying for a Johnson Scholarship ensures consideration for all other available honor scholarships. Hecht & Associates, LLC is offering a one-time $2,500 scholarship for a high school senior or college student in the Washington metropolitan area (District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia). To apply for this scholarship, students must create a short (up to 4 minute) video OR submit an essay (must be at least 1,000 words) telling us about one of the following things: -Tell us about a time when you received help during a tough situation that you experienced growing up? Where did you find help? And how has this impacted your life and where you are today and how will you apply this lesson in your future career choices? -Tell us about a time when you stuck up for someone else. How did you help him or her? What was the outcome? What did you learn from this experience that you would help you in your future or career path? Applications are due April 30, 2017.
