Deadline is January 31, 2020 We are pleased to once again extend the Hamilton Relay Scholarship opportunity to graduating high school seniors in Maryland who are deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind or have difficulty speaking to assist in their goals of continuing their education. Hamilton Relay selects one candidate from each of the states where Hamilton is the contracted service provider. All candidates are required to submit an application, write an essay under the topic of communication technology and provide a letter of recommendation in order to qualify. The application documents can also be found online at www.hamiltonrelay.com. The scholarship deadline is January 31, 2020 and applications must be received or postmarked by this date. The scholarship is in the amount of $500 and the winner will be determined on or before February 28, 2020. DEADLINE FOR APPLYING: February 21, 2020 Dr. Kenneth E. Mann received his BS and MS from Frostburg State College in Maryland and his EdD in Policy Planning and Administration from the University of Maryland in 1988. Dr. Mann served as president of the Washington County Association of Elementary School Administrators as well as the Maryland Association of Elementary School Principals. He taught numerous workshops for prospective administrators and facilitated the MAESP workshop entitled “Previewing the Principalship.” He served as a member of the adjunct faculty at Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College) where he taught the course entitled “The Role of the Principal” to graduate students interested in school administration. He demonstrated leadership by serving as chairman of numerous committees at the local and state levels. In 1995 he was selected by his colleagues to be “The National Distinguished Principal” of Maryland. This is the highest honor an elementary principal working in Maryland can receive. Dr. Mann strongly believed that, “students aspiring to move into teacher education must have a strong commitment and dedication toward the education of all students.” Unfortunately, Dr. Mann died from cancer in 1996. MAESP is a professional organization of elementary and middle school principals, supervisors, and other qualifying administrative or supervisory personnel whose mission is to ensure quality learning for all students, support colleagues with resources and leadership, and demonstrate commitment to equality and excellence in education. Based on Dr. Kenneth E. Mann’s dedication and work for 29 years to MAESP and the local school systems, this scholarship in the amount of $1,000.00 has been developed to honor his accomplishments. The scholarship is offered annually to recognize a successful elementary teacher education applicant whose qualifications meet the outlined criteria. CRITERIA: APPLICANTS MUST - 1) Graduate from a Maryland public high school in 2020 and plan to pursue their elementary teaching degree at a college, university, or trade school in the state of Maryland. 2) Articulate and provide a written statement (one page or less) as to your beliefs and commitment toward educating all students. 3) Provide transcripts that also include ACT or SAT test scores and your junior year G.P.A. 4) Provide two recommendations that would verify your dedication and commitment as a student pursuing a degree in elementary teacher education...one by a faculty member within your school and one by a person outside of your school setting. Please note: The above 3 criteria must be completed; otherwise your application will not be considered.
