The EWM Scholarship was established by Patuxent High School in memory of Erica Weems, who was killed in a car accident on the morning of August 30, 2007. Erica graduated from Calvert High School in 1988, attended St. Mary's College and earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Foreign Languages from George Mason University in 1994.
This scholarship will be awarded to two applicants, in the amount of $1000 each. Requirements: 1. Female athlete 2. A senior at an accredited Calvert County High School and planning to attendcollege 3. Demonstrate strong character, great academic and athletic ability (via essay/application) 4. Coach's recommendation (at least one) 5. Essay 6. All applications must be submitted to the guidance counselor’s office on or before March 30th. Awarded to graduating high school seniors. Students must have a minimum 2.5 GPA who have demonstrated a commitment to community service. Applications must be received or postmarked by March 15, 2023. "We are proud to provide scholarships to students who strive to learn and grow. Applications are due April 1. The winners are announced by June 15 and the scholarship money is paid directly to the school the student will attend in the fall." JRF Scholars receive grants of up to $30,000 over four years to supplement the financial aid they receive from their colleges or universities. In addition, Scholars receive extensive support services, including career guidance and internship placement, and attend JRF’s annual four-day "Mentoring and Leadership Conference" in New York City and other regional events throughout the year.
