Here are some upcoming events hosted by the Department of Fire Protection Engineering (FPE) at the University of Maryland. FPE at the University of Maryland is one of nine majors available in the A. James Clark School of Engineering and is the only ABET-accredited undergraduate program in this field in the world! The Department of FPE is excited to host the following upcoming events this semester: Virtual Information Sessions During this virtual information session, prospective students will learn more about Fire Protection Engineering (FPE). They will learn about an overview of the field, the classes students take, and have a chance to talk to current faculty and students to get any and all questions answered. The three dates and times this semester are:
FPE Design Challenge The FPE Design Challenge is an opportunity for high school students in Maryland, Washington D.C., and Virginia to compete in teams while learning about different aspects of fire protection engineering. It involves the design, construction and (burn) testing of a small housing model where the challenge is to provide innovative means of fire detection and suppression. They will receive mentoring from both current FPE students and industry professionals in order to accomplish this goal. UMD forms a partnership with the associated high school to conduct this event, therefore teams are formed under the guidance of a high school teacher. The registration deadline is October 22nd, 2021. If interested, please reach out to Nicole Hollywood, our Assistant Director for Programming, at [email protected]. More information and team registration can be found here: https://fpe.umd.edu/events/design-challenge Student Shadow Interested in an individualized conversation with the Fire Protection Engineering Department?
