FPE Design Challenge The FPE Design Challenge is an opportunity for high school students in Maryland, Washington D.C., and Virginia to compete in teams while learning about different aspects of fire protection engineering. It involves the design, construction and (burn) testing of a small housing model where the challenge is to provide innovative means of fire detection and suppression. They will receive mentoring from both current FPE students and industry professionals in order to accomplish this goal. UMD forms a partnership with the associated high school to conduct this event, therefore teams are formed under the guidance of a high school teacher. The registration deadline is October 22nd, 2021. If interested, please reach out to Nicole Hollywood, our Assistant Director for Programming, at [email protected]. More information and team registration can be found here: https://fpe.umd.edu/events/design-challenge Student Shadow Interested in an individualized conversation with the Fire Protection Engineering Department? Seniors & Juniors: College/Military representatives love to visit HHS September - November to inform students of what is available at their campus. Consider attending presentations from places that you would like to learn more about, you might be pleasantly surprised!
Starting September 14th, we will have visits from college/military representatives during lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Visits will occur in the small seminar room in the HHS library. Representatives will meet with students in person as of this time. If circumstances change, visits may be converted to a virtual format. If that takes place, all students will be notified, and the link to access the virtual visit will be added to the visit calendar document at that time. Please use this link to our virtual calendar of upcoming visits. Check back often as the list can change on a daily basis. This calendar will continue to get updated as additional college rep. visits get added. For convenience, this calendar will also be added to the HHS guidance website (http://htownguidance.weebly.com/).
